Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, and welcome to December’s Waffle of the Month! It has been anything but “Silent Nights” since our last edition. The title industry’s typical December lull is nowhere to be found, as record high transactions continue to “dash through the snow”. We figured that a quick bite out was more on target than a recipe to try at home. For this reason, as well as to help support local businesses when they need it most, the Waffle of the Month for December can be found at none other than Maple Bacon in Plano, TX.
No time of the year is more about tradition than the holiday season. Whatever you and yours celebrate, it’s the time we spend together and the customs we share that make the season special. With that in mind, there is no better waffle to review than the tried and true, the foundational, the classic Belgian Waffle with Strawberries and Whipped Cream. These days, you can find any number of variations and recipes showcasing flavors from all over the spectrum. That being said, sometimes less is more, and that was indeed the case for the waffles I tried at Maple Bacon.
There is just no other way to put it, these were some of the best waffles I have ever had. They were perfectly crisp, light, and airy, but still had enough body to not be overwhelmed by the toppings. I tried them with strawberries and cream, as well as butter and syrup. Both variations were absolutely wonderful, and the donut on top was a welcome treat. I highly recommend heading down to support this local establishment. Not only are restaurants in need of patronage now more than ever, but this one is worth the visit no matter the circumstances. You can count on me reviewing their other offerings in the future as well!
“Those who know me well may know me by the nickname ‘Waffles’, which suffices to say, I’m a big fan. The crisp crust, fluffy center, and perfectly engineered syrup-collecting pockets always remind me of lazy weekend mornings and the promise of a day filled with comfort.” – Matt Berzins
These waffles get a 10/10 on the patented Wafflometer®, and go best with a family member or friend for a Saturday morning get-together. Like I mentioned before, these are some of the best waffles I have ever tried. They are the perfect consistency, come with various topping choices, and their light vanilla flavor accents whatever topping you choose.
